Chris Upton, Chairman

At the recently held AGM, the HOSPA Council ratified the appointment of the Association’s Deputy Chairman Chris Upton as the new Chairman of the Hospitality Professionals Association for Finance, Revenue Management and IT.

Chris Upton is a Chartered Accountant and has worked in senior financial positions in the hospitality sector for over 20 years. He has been finance director of a number of hotel, pub and restaurant groups.  Before that, he held senior positions in finance and IT at a number of commodity trading companies. He was Finance Director of Arcadian International plc for seven years – during which time the company developed a group of four-star country house hotels, started the Malmaison group and renovated the Great Eastern Hotel in the City of London.  He was a founder and non-executive director of Pod Food; and co-founded Snoozebox Plc, an innovative portable hotel concept. In addition, he is currently non-executive director of a London hotel company and runs a consultancy practice, C U Associates Ltd, specialising in hospitality. He was appointed to the then BAHA Council in 2007 and served as Deputy Chairman until his new appointment as HOSPA Chairman September 2014.

Jane Pendlebury, Membership and Events Jane Pendlebury, CEO

Jane Pendlebury is a successful and well known personality within the worldwide hospitality arena, her career to date has been dedicated to hospitality. Ambition and enthusiasm have resulted in high achievements and recognition in the field. Jane ran the Membership and Events office for HOSPA from 2014-2016. Her involvment in HOSPA (previously BAHA) started over six years ago and in that time has been a regular HOSPA Member and a Corporate Gold Sponsor. Jane has been part of the operations team for HOSPACE since 2012.

Robert Maloney Robert Maloney, Membership Officer

As Membership Officer of HOSPA, Rob is actively involved in promoting best practice in finance and accounting, revenue management and IT and enhancing career development through educational programmes. Rob is also responsible for organising the HOSPA regional events calendar for members meetings being held in the Midlands, North of England, and Scotland.

Michael Heyward, Chairman of Revenue Management Committee

Michael Heyward is the principal of the consulting business, Heyward Hospitality Solutions delivering business process improvement and profit optimisation for the hospitality industry. A Hospitality Lecturer at Glion Institute of Higher Education (London) and Chairman of the HOSPA Revenue Management Committee. Michael has over 25 years of experience in the Hospitality Industry, in revenue management, hotel operations and corporate roles. This includes independent hotels, IHG and Accor, from 3 to 5 star across Europe, Asia and the Pacific. With a proven track record for delivering market out performance in revenue and developing teams of highly skilled, diverse, competitive people.

 David Nicolson, Chairman of the Finance Committee

David currently works for the Jumeirah Group as Vice President of Finance in Europe. He looks after 6 hotels including 3 in London, one in Frankfurt , one in Mallorca and another one in Istanbul. He also oversees the administration of Jumeirah's Global Sales Offices in Europe.

David Derbyshire, Chairman of Information Technology Committee

David has been Director of IT Service Delivery for the EMEA region at Hilton since 2015, based at their regional HQ in Watford. He has spent much of the last 17 years working in IT Service Management roles across multiple industry sectors, and first joined the hospitality industry in 2012 with Hilton as Regional IT Director for the UK & Ireland.

Prior to working in IT David worked as a Food Technologist for 8 years, so he has a special interest in F&B Operations and the innovative use of technology in that area. As an IT professional working in hospitality David’s main objective is ‘bridging the gap’ between the business and IT, and sees this as a key driver for his tenure as Chair of the HOSPA IT Committee.

Katherine Doggrell Katherine Doggrell, Editor of The Overview

Katherine is a journalist with over 15 years' experience in hotels, technology and people who dress up like cowboys in Essex. A former editor of Hotel Report, she now freelances for Hotel Analyst and provides consultancy and content for a number of sector players. Prior to making her move into hospitality, Katherine worked for publications including the Financial Times, The Guardian, Business 2.0, Q and Mojo. She has just finished her first novel and helps to run an interactive story night in Brighton called Rattle Tales.

Julian Demetriadi Julian Demetriadi, Press Officer

Dr Julian Demetriadi FIH MTS PhD, has over 30 years experience as an hotelier, journalist, historian and PR and Marketing Consultant specialising in the UK hospitality, tourism and leisure industry. He is a former editor of Hospitality magazine – the glossy monthly business publication of the Institute of Hospitality which is the worldwide professional body for managers and aspiring managers in the hospitality, tourism and leisure industry. Currently, Julian is Managing Director of CommunicationsPoint who look after all PR activity at HOSPA.

Charlotte Pratt, Membership and Events Manager

Formerly Hospitality Events Manager at Osborne, Queen Victoria’s palatial Isle of Wight home at East Cowes, Charlotte is ideally qualified for her new job. No stranger to the hospitality industry, she was only 24 when appointed Reception Manager at the Thistle Marble Arch Hotel, London. Charlotte then moved into event management within the corporate sector – working with the likes of Verizon, Deutsche Bank, Lehman Brothers and JP Morgan. Leaving her corporate City life behind, she then decided to undertake a cordon bleu course, which led her to opening a bakery in Bembridge, Isle of Wight, before ultimately returning to event management.
